Archibald Barnhardt

Archibald "Archie" Lee Barnhardt, 69 of Rockwell, died September 13, 2010 at his residence. A celebration of life and resurrection will be 4:00pm Thursday at Cold Springs United Methodist Church officiated by Dr. Neil Haynes and Rev. Mary Hatley, burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Barnhardt family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday evening at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Barnhardt was born April 15, 1941 in Cabarrus County son of the late William Orlando Barnhardt, Sr. and Mae Burris Barnhardt. After 35 years of service and having held part ownership and numerous positions within the same company , he retired from Sunox/Holox Welding in 1997. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a boy in Troop 5 in 1957. He took over as Scoutmaster of the troop in 1970 and served until 1986 when he had to give up the position due to health problems. He returned to serve again as Scoutmaster several years later culminating in a total of 20+ years with Troop 5. He received the Outstanding Scoutmaster Award, the Cross and Flame Award and the Silver Beaver Award. As his health declined, he was able to continue to serve in various leadership positions with Boy Scouting and Cub Scouting. A life-long member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church, he served on the Cemetery Committee, History Committee, 150th Anniversary Committee, Sunday School Class President, Administrative Council. Member of Cabarrus County Geneology Society, Member of Rowan Cabarrus Community College Welding Advisory Committee, Member of Good Sam Camping Club, Avid Camper He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Carol Bost Barnhardt, children: Annette Hammill and husband Bobby; Jannette Kluttz and husband Lee; Ronald Barnhardt and wife LeAnne, Grandchildren: Stacy and Ryan Hammill; Lindsey, Alex and Kaleb Kluttz; Dylan and Dustin Barnhardt, Brothers, William "Bill" Barnhardt, Jr. and Troy Barnhardt, Sisters, Shirley Hurlocker, Kathy Flowe, and Joyce Allmon, And a number of nieces and nephews In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5301 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081, Cold Springs BSA Troop 5 or Cold Springs Cemetery Fund 2550 Cold Springs Rd., Concord, NC 28025
