Ann Crowell Lipe, 84, of Concord passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Transitional Health Services, Kannapolis.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Concord, officiated by Rev. Dr. Mark Ericson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lay in state one hour prior to the funeral. The family will greet friends following the service.
Ann was born May 22, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio. Her birth parents were Chlorise Smith and Lee Crowell. After the death of her mother, when Ann was three years old, she made her childhood home with her uncle and aunt, Charles and Ida Crowell, of Mt. Pleasant, whom she fondly called Mama and Daddy Crowell.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Lipe, in 2013 and the one she lovingly called “sister“, Ethel Crowell Ritchie, in 2006.
Ann was a 1949 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. She furthered her education at Lenior Rhyne College and after graduation, spent her 47 work years with Shuford Insurance Co., where she made many dear friends throughout the years.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, active with the Women of the ELCA and a member of the Elizabeth Cauble Circle and Margaret Shipton Circle, served on the church council, social ministry committee, and call committee. Her hobbies included: a weekly card game with her dearest friends, reading, volunteering at CMC Northeast and for the Salvation Army, and loving tasks done for family, friends and church.
Surviving to celebrate her life are two sons: Greg Lipe of Florence, SC and Gary Lipe of Concord; nephew, Don Ritchie(Paula); niece, Donna Carter(Donald) all of Mt. Pleasant; and nephew, Kenneth Smith(Donna) of WV
