Alma Ury Tarlton Lambert Ward, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Atrium Health Northeast.
A celebration of her life will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at her church, The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, with the Rev. Lewis Whittington and the Rev. Ruth Ann Sipe officiating. Her family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Home, and burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery.
A Cabarrus County native, Alma was born September 5, 1928, to Everett Tarlton and Merle Ury Tarlton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, George and Mike Tarlton; a sister, Margaret T. Smith; her husband, James C. Lambert in 1971; and her oldest son, Eldon Lambert, who died in Vietnam in 1967.
Alma was a proud Gold Star War Mother. She traveled to Washington, D.C. representing her son at a reunion of the 1st and 9th Marine Corps.
Alma attended Mt. Pleasant High School, and her working life was spent in convenience store enterprises owned and operated by her family. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed getaways to the beach, specifically Oak Island.
Survivors include her son, Rick Lambert of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Gail Tarlton Porter, of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
