Joseph Lanier

Joseph Eugene Lanier, 96, of Wingate Rd., Fayetteville, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at his son's residence. Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday, August 30, at Faymont Baptist Church, officiated by the Reverend Chris Evans and the Reverend Bruce Gwyn.. Burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens. The Lanier family will receive friends from 12 PM - 2 PM prior to the service. Mr. Lanier was born August 15, 1917 in Duplin County, son of the late James Lanier and Ada Simpson Lanier. He was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church in Fayetteville. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, he was the recipient of a bronze star. He is survived by three sons; Jerry Lanier of Mt. Pleasant, Thomas Lanier of Parkton, and Joseph Whaley of Clinton. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Talbert of Radcliff, KY, grandchild, Monica Campbell, and great grand child, Emma Campbell.
