Amelia Elizabeth Hahn Poplin, 74, of Mt. Pleasant gained her angel wings when she passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017.
A celebration of her life will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at Gordon Funeral Home, 8559 Cook St., Mt. Pleasant, with burial to follow in the Mt. Gilead Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Poplin family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m.
Amelia was born Feb. 22, 1942, to John Virgil Hahn and Genora Arlene Barrier Hahn. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Bobby Gene Poplin, who died in 2012; and great-grandson, Benjamin Layton.
A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Amelia worked in local hosiery mills before becoming a nursing assistant at the former Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, from which she retired. As much as she enjoyed her work in healthcare, her greatest joy came from being a loving mother, Memaw and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Layton and Kay Lowder of Mt. Pleasant, Rhonda Poplin and Glenn Miller of Albemarle; grandchildren Ashley Layton and Matt Springer, Timothy Layton and Destany Layton, and Tiffany Grimes; great-grandchildren Emma Layton and Luke Springer; and her four-legged companion, Angel.
The Poplin family extends heartfelt thanks to Hospice and Myrtle Harrington for their compassionate care during their mother’s declining health.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28083
